Mike and Peggy of the Cantarroso Farm and Apiary in Erwin, TN, run an extraordinary place! Located on the Nolichucky River, the atmosphere of peaceful productivity permeates throughout. The grounds are beautiful, with flowers, trees, grass, and a hammock and lawn chairs in which to relax by the river! We rented a very comfortable cottage with the bed in the main room, a tiny corner of a kitchenette, a private shower and sink, and a very clean, non-smelling composting toilet.
Mike and Peggy treated us as welcome guests, not just paying customers. They let us help with farm jobs such as collecting eggs from their chickens and building bee frames for the hives. We also were included in the priceless experience of splitting a bee hive, looking for the queen bee, and then feeding several of their bee hives! What fun, to suit up and learn about the mysterious lives of bees for a couple hours!
We are so grateful for the extra care Mike and Peggy gave us, and hope to visit again after our hike!
